This standard provides requirements for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of soundstages and approved production facilities used in motion picture and television industry productions. The requirements blend the facility's daily operational needs with principles of fire protection, property protection, and life safety. NFPA 140 does not apply to off-site production locations (i.e., "filming on location") or to theaters, auditoriums, radio broadcast locations, or post-production facilities.
